Passengers who are flying out in the early hours very often take advantage of one of the nearby hotels, with the Park Royal hotel being located only meters away from the airport terminals. Other close by hotel options include both the Holiday Inn and Ibis Budget, Melbourne.
Be aware, if you do decide to stay local that these on-site airports always book up very early. Planning is definitely something we would recommend. That said there are also plenty of other hotels that are available within a short taxi ride away.
TRANSPORTATION TO MELBOURNE
Melbourne Airport sites 23KM away from the city center and there are good range of transportations options available.
Taxi – Taxi’s are readily available and can be a great way of getting into the city centre, providing of course that there are 4 or less people travelling. Considerations around luggage are also important, especially when taking an executive type vehicle with a smaller boot area.
Local bus – The Skybus Super Shuttle service is the main connection between the airport and downtown Melbourne. This fast, reliable service takes around 20 minutes to reach the Southern Cross Station.
Train – The Melbourne Airport Rail link has been a widely debated topic for a good number of years. As recent as 2013 a decision was made to move forward with the planning and construction of this important link. Proposals see a completed line that would link the Airport to the CBD via Sunshine Station.
AIRPORT TRANSFERS
One of the best ways to get to your destination from this busy airport is by the use of private airport transfers. For many people these are the prefered transportation method as they cater for all luggage and can work out to be very cost effective when used for group transportation.
