The cricketer Wayne Clark, musician Dave Faulkner, and broadcaster Brian Hayes were all born here. Perth was named after Perth in Scotland by settlers who moved into this area around 1829. The discovery of gold in the 1890s expanded the small settlement into a large town. Today, it has a Mediterranean climate which attracts visitors from all over the world.
