Australia is one of the richest continents in the world today. Its natural resources, trade and tourism bring out the best in it hence attracting a lot of wealth for the people. It is occupied by friendly people with a peaceful culture.  However, it has not always been like this. In the past, there have been some wars that could have deterred the development of the land to what it had become today.

It is said that people have inhabited Australia for approximately 40.000 to 60,000 years since the first inhabitants. The first people in Australia were the Aboriginal Australians and the Torres Strait islanders.

They are said to have migrated into the island form Asia and Africa and they boated into Australia form the island hat is now known as Indonesia. They lived in different bands which spoke different stores. Life was peaceful until the beginning of the aboriginal war.

When did the war begin?

The aboriginal war was characterized by a series of civil conflicts that arose between the Aboriginal Australians and the European settlers. This was because the settlers came in and they wanted to occupy the land. This was early in the 1780s.

There was a series of fights between the settlers and the natives which lasted until the early 20th century. By this time, many Aboriginals were killed by the European settlers. The remaining ones were forced to stay in reserved areas where they were governed by strict rules.

They were not allowed to mix with the European settlers. Even when the land developed, they law was that they should use segregated public amenities the Europeans. This caused a civil out roar even from other stakeholders from all over the world.

Casualties of the war

According to history, these conflicts resulted to many wars.one of them was the black wars of Tasmania, the Pemulwuy-led Hawkesbury and Nepean wars as well as the Port Phillip wars. There were many casualties arising from these wars.

Australian records indicate that there were around 2500 European who were killed in the war however the war was more tragic on the natives since they had no proper war equipment. They had spears and other crude weapons which gave the Europeans the upper hand.

It is recorded that more than 20,000 indigenous Australians were killed in these wars. Thousands of aboriginals also died because of diseases and other hardships that they went through during the conflicts. In 2008, the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, gave a formal apology to the aboriginals for policies that inflicted loss and suffering for the people.
