Golf in Melbourne

Melbourne is home to over 90 public and private golf courses.  Home to the famous Melbourne Sandbelt which hosts 8 courses that should be on any golf enthusiasts must play list. Although the courses on the Sandbelt are private clubs they all encourage members of interstate clubs or overseas clubs to visit with a simple introduction letter.  For a more casual golfing experience choose from any number of other public and semi private clubs in this great golfing region.

Golf MelbourneAlbert Park Golf Club

Location!  Location!  Location!  Just 2km from Melbourne’s CBD Albert Park Golf Club is perfect if you are pressed for time and are determined to work in a round of golf.  Sneak in 9 holes before or after work with extended summer hours from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.  Albert Park features 18 holes of golf with views of the Albert Park lake and the Melbourne city skyline.

Amstel Golf – Ranfurlie Course

Amstel Golf has two courses available to choose from one of which has made it onto the Australian top 100 courses.  The Ranfurlie course comes in at number 65 and is a private course allowing visitors Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon, Friday and Sunday.  All green fees are under $35 even on holidays making this course our best value on the list.

Growling Frog Golf Course

For a little something different the Growling Frog Golf Course is a public course with 300 year old red gum trees and a meandering creek running through the property where golfers may catch a glimpse of wild kangaroos and other Australian wildlife.  The Growling Frog is a mere 30 minutes north of the North Ring Road and will challenge golfers of all skill levels.

Metropolitan Golf Club

One of Melbourne’s famed Sand Belt courses the Metropolitan Golf club is a beautifully maintained course and its history stretches all the way back to 1891.  One of its most famous attributes is the century old red flowering gum next to the clubhouse, it has become the club’s emblem and you can see it in full bloom in February.  The Metropolitan Golf Club hosted the Australian Open in November 2014.

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club

The number 1 ranked course in Australia and number 9 in the world The Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a course not to be missed by golf enthusiasts.  This challenging course is part of Melbourne’s world renowned Sand Belt.  Visitors are welcome with a letter from their home club either overseas or interstate.  This course is not for beginners, the course is very challenging.

Whether you need to sneak in a quick 9 holes before work in the CBD or you have time to travel outside Melbourne to enjoy a more leisurely round of golf Melbourne has a lot of options.  Home to the famous Melbourne Sandbelt, you will find public courses with fees around $30 and Championship courses in the hundreds of dollars.  Melbourne is a mecca for golfers from students to pros.  Book your tee times now, summer is a busy time for golf in this beautiful city.
